Laser Rangefinder
A laser rangefinder, also known as a laser telemeter, is a rangefinder that determines the distance to an object using a laser beam. The most popular type of laser rangefinder works by delivering a laser pulse in a narrow beam towards the target and measuring the time it takes for the pulse to be reflected off the target and returned to the sender. This technique is not suitable for high precision sub-millimeter measurements, where triangulation and other techniques are commonly utilized, due to the rapid speed of light.
