A borescope (sometimes known as a boroscope, though this spelling is not conventional) is an optical instrument that consists of a rigid or flexible tube with an eyepiece or display on one end and an objective lens or camera on the other, coupled together by an optical or electrical system. In some cases, the optical system is complemented by (usually fiberoptic) illumination to improve brightness and contrast. The objective lens creates an internal image of the lit object, which is magnified by the eyepiece and shown to the viewer's eye.
