The pilot pin's center hole correctly aligns the cutter, provides internal lubrication, and removes the slug. The pilot pin allows you to position the cutter precisely. The pilot pin retracts during drilling, allowing internal coolant to reach the cutting teeth. The slug is automatically ejected from the cutter after the hole is finished.
